“Your oath was to your king!” Athos shouts in a sudden burst of unbridled anger. “And to the brotherhood that you have now soiled.” He hisses through his teeth and looks away from both men, breathing hard. Athos has buried the fear of that first day in Darrow, set into his bones by Aramis’ warnings that finding a way home might be impossible, and by Porthos’ insistence that he had no intention to return, anyway. Now that gut-wrenching terror that he has lost both his home and his brothers resurfaces. Had they even forgotten simple decency? Basic honor?
